Hey guys! This is a bit late (it’s the seventh already?!?), but I thought with everything that’s happened over this summer, it would be fun to do a wrap-up! I don’t believe I’ve ever done one of these, as usually I feel like most of the content I would mention is already on my blog, but I think a lot of things have happened recently and I’d LOVE to share them with you. 🙂 Let’s get to it, shall we?
Well hello there! Quite recently, I was in a huge reading slump for a couple of months. Before that, I was in a minor reading slump for the entire beginning of the year. And I’ve just finally pulled myself out of it. So I figured, why not share that experience with you guys? In an extremely rambly, most incoherent how-to guide, of course. Let’s get to it, shall we?
How to Get Out of a Reading Slump
This hole seems to be rather deep, doesn’t it! Since I was only able to get rid of 3 books in last week’s Down the TBR Hole, I’m hoping for a bit more this week! Let’s just get right into the action, shall we?
Down the TBR Hole is a (very) bookish meme, originally created by Lia @ Lost In A Story. She has since combed through all of her TBR (very impressive) and diminished it by quite a bit, but the meme is still open to others! How to participate:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
- Order by Ascending Date Added
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or let it go?
Yikes! Recently, I was asked a question by someone who I’m friends with on Goodreads. She said something along the lines of “Do you rate everything five stars?” Now, this is a completely valid question. I do rate a TON of books five stars. All the time. But the real problem is, I don’t always mean it.
Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of people writing posts explaining what their ratings mean to them. I’d definitely like to do one of those soon, but they got me thinking: what does a five star book constitute from me? I didn’t find it too hard a question. Basically, in order for a book to hit five stars, it has to hit two milestones-
- The actual writing of the book has to be amazing. By this, I mean the writing style, plot, characters, relationships, world-building, etc. etc.
- I have to really fall in love with it. When I finish a really good book, I usually get chills. If I don’t get that feeling from the book, I haven’t really fallen in love with it.
If the book only hits one of these marks, it’s usually four stars, or if it’s really close but not quite good enough, it’ll get 4 and a half.
However, I’ve just become so used to saying that I love all the books I read, that I’ve rated a lot of them five stars. And I do mean a lot. Even if they don’t really deserve it. And those are the books I’m here to talk about today! I want to change my Goodreads rating and hopefully explain myself a bit. Continue reading
Eeeeeek! Merry Christmas everybody!!!
(Or Chanukah, whatever you celebrate in this wonderful holiday season!)
Um, I got a camera?
My lovely parents BOUGHT ME A CAMERA. It was on my list, but I didn’t know if I would get it. I actually said that it didn’t have to be fancy, so if I did get one, I was expecting something really simple. IT HAS WIFI AND BLUETOOTH AND IT CONNECTS TO MY IPOD AND IT’S SO FANCY IT CONFUSES ME AND I LOVE IT. So yes, before you ask, the picture above is taken with my camera. And that’s my Christmas tree this year (it’s a real tree)! 🙂 Anyhoo, hopefully you guys would be excited for me about a random camera anyways, but the REAL reason I wanted it is…
Um, I fail at bookstagram all the time. So this is only part of the reason. But with such an easy, quick way to send pictures to my iPod and then to upload to Instagram, that makes it all so much more fun!
Is that what you call them? You know, the pictures (you can get them from places like Unsplash) used for backgrounds to blog headers, titles, etc. I live in a small town, and recently I’ve started to notice that… Everything is gorgeous? And I think it would be really fun to use my own pictures for blog headers. Plus, that makes everything easier for me; instead of trying to find one specific kind of picture, I can just take my own! Hopefully the viewing experience will still be just as good or improved for you guys! 🙂
Now that I’ve squealed about my OWN CAMERA OMG EEK let’s move on with our lives, shall we? I mentioned yesterday that I might participate in some of the “Top 16 of 2016” challenges, and I love today’s topic, so of course I had to join in!
Hey guys, it’s Amy! This is just sort of an announcement post- you’ll see what I mean in just a minute. 🙂
This weekly book meme officiated in November 2013 and is still going strong! Join the group to become a T5W-er and check out the topics for the current month!
Hey guys, it’s Amy! I’ve seen this meme a few times around the blogosphere, and it looks so fun! I really thought the topic for this week looked cool, so I thought I’d join in! The topic is:
