Down the TBR Hole: This is working!!! Eek!

Down the TBR Hole

Yikes, I haven’t done a Down the TBR Hole in, what… Almost a month? Yikes! I definitely need to get back into the swing of things. Let’s dive right in, shall we?

It’s awesome how well this meme is working for me! I’ve gotten rid of so many books, and the Spring Cleaning Book Tag that I did a week ago definitely helped as well. 🙂

Okay, to be fair, I keep adding a gazillion-trillion books. But I’ve stayed under 700 and the number is still going down more than up! If you want to check out my last Down the TBR Hole, you can do so here. 🙂

Down the TBR Hole is a (very) bookish meme, originally created by Lia @ Lost In A Story. She has since combed through all of her TBR (very impressive) and diminished it by quite a bit, but the meme is still open to others! How to participate:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
  • Order by Ascending Date Added
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or let it go?

Everything All At Once: ALL OF THE CHARACTERS LOVE BOOKS. I LOVE THEM.

Hey y’all! It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these (a review, that is), so I feel a little rusty. However, the challenge for Day 2 of the Biannual Bibliothon is to write a review, so I figured I could give it a go! 😉 I missed yesterday’s challenge because I was participating in the 24 in 48 readathon, but maybe I’ll have time to make it up sometime later this week! We’ll just have to see. Today’s blog challenge is hosted by Kassie @ Miss Sassy Kassie, so make sure to click on over and check out her review! I also recently saw Aimal @ Bookshelves and Paperbacks’ post with tips for writing reviews, so I’ll be keeping that in mind. It’s definitely worth a read! Anyhoo, let’s get on with the show, shall we?

Everything All At Once by Katrina Leno

I received a copy of this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Lottie Reaves has always had anxiety. But when her aunt Helen dies, she starts to believe death is awaiting her around every corner. And really, what is the reason for living in the first place, anyway?

Aunt Helen wasn’t only her aunt; she was the bestselling author of the Alvin Hatter series. As her final gift and goodbye to Lottie, she leaves her 24 letters: each with a dare. And all of them leading to a secret she began hiding long ago.

O-kay, so I’m kind of terrible at writing synopses. But you get the idea. The whole reason I requested this book is because I had read Katrina Leno’s previous book, The Lost and the Found. (And loved it, of course!) But I completely did not know what to expect from this book, and I was extremely pleasantly surprised.

I love books with dares, challenges, bucket lists, games, etc. I find them entertaining and I always want to know what happens next. I requested this book ages ago, so when I went into it, I had basically zero idea what the book was about. Which made the whole thing that much more exciting and fun!

All of my thoughts are so scrambled, so let’s just make some lists, shall we? Continue reading

Down the TBR Hole: I can fall and talk at the same time, right?

Down the TBR Hole

Hey guys! Apologies for missing this post on Monday (as is the norm); I had my spinal fusion surgery for my scoliosis on June 21 and I’ve just been recovering since! Last week’s DTTH was on time because I was able to get it scheduled before my surgery. 🙂 Anyway, I wanted to make sure to get this post in for this week, because I’ve been adding books to my TBR even faster than I’ve been taking them off (argh, you beautiful new releases), and I can’t afford to lose a week!

But speaking of my surgery and therefore recovery, I have a ton of time on my hands! This means I’m getting back into reading and I have a ton of things planned on the blog. You’ll definitely be hearing more about my surgery (if you’re wondering about that) in a later post, and as I think my TBR needs extra help, I’m going to try to find some other unhaul-tags to do to get rid of a few in between these posts! Let me know down below if you know of any. 🙂 That said, without further ado, I think we should start unhauling, don’t you?

Down the TBR Hole: How deep does this thing go???

Down the TBR Hole (2)

This hole seems to be rather deep, doesn’t it! Since I was only able to get rid of 3 books in last week’s Down the TBR Hole, I’m hoping for a bit more this week! Let’s just get right into the action, shall we?

Down the TBR Hole: I’m a regular old Alice!

Down the TBR Hole (2)

As in Wonderland? Get it? Eh? Eh? Eh??? No? Okay.*

I. LOVE. THIS. MEME. So I don’t want to miss any weeks of it… Heaven knows it’ll take long enough already! Anyhoo, as I mentioned in last week’s Down the TBR Hole, I was at camp for a few days, then had one day off, and then was off on vacation! I just got back on Saturday evening. My surgery, however, is Wednesday, and as I have no idea when I’ll be feeling up to posting afterwards, I might disappear for a bit. But I will definitely try to get as many of these scheduled as I can! Anyhoo, I’m starting to sound like a broken record. Let’s get into the thing, shall we! 😉

Time in a Bottle: An Unexpectedly Interesting Read!

Time in a Bottle by Kathleen D. Tresemer
I actually received this book from my mom’s friend (whom I have known since I was little and therefore still call Pattycake)! Pat is a children’s book author, and she is always making author-y friends (as you do) and somehow she came across this author! Therefore, I have a signed copy addressed to Pat, which is quite neat. 🙂 Anyhoo, I really wasn’t expecting much of anything from this book, but once I looked more into it, I realized that it is actually YA! Of course, this was super exciting, so I brought it along on vacation, and started reading it the very first day. I was able to almost finish it on the car ride, so it probably took me 6-7 hours to finish. And I was quite pleasantly surprised!
The book is told from the points of view of Beth and her twin brother, Teddy. It begins with Beth going to the “cool” party on July 4, the summer after their eighth grade year. When Mindy offers her a drink, she accepts, and all too soon, she’s had three. The alcohol makes her braver, more confident, and less shaky. Soon, vodka becomes more of a necessity than a treat, and the only thing Beth is worried about is where her next shot is coming from. Although Teddy isn’t completely clueless, he has no idea how addicted she’s become. Meanwhile, he’s trying to get a girlfriend, maintain his friendships, train for gymnastics, cope with their dad’s death, and come to terms with his mom’s new relationship status, all on top of keeping Beth safe. Down the TBR Hole: I’m Terrible At This!

Down the TBR Hole (2)

This meme is totally awesome…. But I just added a bunch of 2018 releases to my TBR. Wrong direction much? Anyhoo, let’s get this party started! After last week’s Down the TBR Hole, I created a category for DTTH, so if you’re ever interested, you can look through all my past weeks of it! Anyhoo, here’s how this thing works!
